In 2023, the Library Copyright Alliance, which consists of the Association of Research Libraries and the American Library Association, issued principles interpreting how existing United States copyright law applies to artificial intelligence. The briefing will provide an explanation of the most recent iteration of the principles in light of the current policy landscape, touch on outstanding legal questions that are unsettled by the courts, and discuss the future of the principles. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the core principles and how the principles shape advocacy on behalf of libraries.
