December 1, 2005

Social software like delicious, flickr or conneta have taken the web world by storm. The development of folksonomies from systems such as these can provide supplemental metadata to more formal organizational structures provided by libraries and courseware systems. The Pennsylvania University Library has developed a tagging system and has begun to use it to collect annotated bibliographies of videos from patrons. Additional uses include research guides for undergraduates, annotations in the Library catalog, and image portfolios. The presenters would like to receive feedback on their system, and on the potential uses of such a system.
