Identifying Global Expertise in the Modern Library Economy

Modern libraries require a growing set of knowledge and expertise historically absent from information science programs and knowledge management organizations. COVID-19 introduced new economic and social constraints that make traditional talent acquisition models less accessible. This unique crossroads can only be navigated by a total redesign of how the information profession analyzes, develops, and shares expertise. Skilltype has been researching and developing modern solutions for library talent management since 2018, surfacing several key developments and questions that require ecosystem-wide involvement. This session is intended for academic research library and information technology leaders, commercial and open source vendors, and consortial officers responsible for resource sharing and member services. It will provide a brief introduction of the Skilltype platform, an update on progress towards creating a global library expertise graph, and an open discussion surrounding opportunities for collaboration.
