The University of Oklahoma (OU) Libraries’ Digital Scholarship and Data Services department developed an artificial intelligence (AI) sandbox, leveraging the National Research Platform (NRP) with a seed grant from the OU Data Institute for Societal Challenges (DISC) and University Libraries. This pilot gave the community access to AI through three avenues: 1) for no-code interaction, users can access the LibreChat application, 2) for coding interaction, supporting automation and API-based use-cases, providing access to the LiteLLM application, and 3) for local experimentation, access to one Windows and two Mac workstations, allowing users to investigate hardware and software configurations for use in their research groups. The impacts have been substantial, enabling an OU faculty member to redesign five assignments to utilize programmatic AI integration. Another faculty member, in support of a deep learning crash course, accessed the Libraries’ Nautilus-based frameworks.
