E-Science
In the sciences, instruments are now providing huge streams of data to enable researchers to analyze problems in new ways in fields like astronomy and environmental science. Individual scientists develop large data sets in their research and may add them to a national or international disciplinary repository so that others can re-use their data or combine it with other data to gain new insights. Some funding agencies are imposing requirements that researchers develop data plans as part of their research proposals. In this rapidly developing area, individual researchers, institutions, and disciplinary societies are all grappling with policies, procedures, funding models, and availability of expertise related to data curation. CNI assists the community in understanding and framing emerging issues in cyberinfrastructure and e-science, with a primary focus on data sharing and data curation issues.
